The Project
We set an ambitious goal for this poster series: to render at least one travel poster design for each country on the planet! After depicting the most-visited places on earth, we began doing research on all the less-traveled destinations—some were places we’d never heard of. We learned a lot, and we are nearly done.
The Challenge
Some countries (like France) have a national icon like the Eiffel Tower. But what visual image defines Togo, Africa? Vintage travel poster art was invented by the transportation and travel industries to romanticize destinations and sell tickets for rail, airline, cruise line, and tour packages. We needed to figure out how to make a romantic depiction of every country in the world.
The Solution
After a lot of research, (and as much actual traveling as we could do), we made lists of the top 2-3 things that defined each country or international city. It might be food, architecture, wildlife, geology, culture, or landmarks—if it made you think of that place, we would figure out a way to render a poster of it in the tradition of the Golden Age of Travel Poster Art.
